Department of Chemistry has its existence since the establishment of the college in 1960. Dr. R. S. Chaudhary was the founder head of the department. Initially, the department offered only UG course, and the PG in the subject started in the year 2003 under the self finance scheme. Since its inception, the department has maintained its reputation in providing an exceptionally disciplined and academically rich environment to the students. Chemistry department is well-known for its harmonious environment amongst staff members and has maintained the same since last many years. Presently, the department is lead by Dr. Rajeev Johari and the team is bringing laurels to the department and taking it to greater heights under his able guidance and motivation.
The department also feels pride in mentioning that it has few of the best labs compared to any college in the state for U. G. level. There are four well ventilated and well equipped labs in the department to accommodate a good strength of B.Sc. and M.Sc. students. Department also has one lecture theatre with a well equipped smart class which is used often to show videos and presentations to the students related to their subjects. There is also a facility of departmental library where the needy students can get the books issued apart from the books available from the book bank facility in library.
Amongst all the departments of Science faculty, Chemistry has the maximum strength of students with 480 students enrolled every year in B.Sc. Part I CBZ and PCM group (240 each) and 30 seats available in M.Sc. (Previous) Chemistry. The department consists of 8 faculty members and 6 members in the non-teaching staff (one Lab assistant, one gas man, and 6 lab bearers)
