Department of Sports and Physical Education was started in the beginning years of the institution to showcase the sports and games abilities of the students.
Along with its basic purpose the department also prepare students for the compulsory paper in graduation programme. Physical Education has become a compulsory subject for all the students from the session 2006-07. Department has a growing interest in the areas of sports training, exercise physiology, sports pedagogy, sports management, sport psychology and health education. Most of the students (both girls and boys) are attending the classes and enjoying the regular theory and practical classes. We are expecting the affiliation of Physical Education as an optional subject for B.A (Programme) with 60 seats in our college from the next session onwards considering the interest of students.
Apart from academics, our sportspersons are doing exceptionally well on the field. We have won a number of championships in inter-collegiate sports events either as winner or runner. Around 20-30 students of our college are selected for Inter University events every year. We give our students handsome incentives including cash prize money, track suits, sports kits, sports goods etc for improving their performance, resulting in good placement.
It is a matter of immense pride and delight that some of the students of our college have won laurel on national and international levels during the last few years.
A huge multipurpose play ground and a well furnished gym are the learning and practice source of our department. We offer an impressive range of facilities and equipment which operate at the cutting edge of physical health and sports sciences. We are also planning to start a Cricket Academy and indoor badminton court soon at our college facilitating our students with best training and practice in Cricket and in Badminton.
