The department of Sociology was established in 1960 itself when the Vardhaman College came into existence. Sociology Department is an undergraduate department and PG course in self finance was introduced for just two years in 2002-2005. Being a very popular subject amongst students, the department is planning to start PG course soon. The department is an approved research centre by the MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. Dr. Alka Sahoo, who is currently the head of the department, is an approved Ph.D. guide.
Presently, the department has 3 highly qualified and academically oriented permanent and 1 temporary faculty. Dr. Alka Sahoo has a teaching experience of 21+ years, Dr. Meghna Arora has teaching experience of 6+ years while Mr. Prashant Kumar has nearly 2+ years of teaching experience. All the dedicated faculty members believe in and follow knowledge oriented teaching.
The department imparts three year graduate degree course on the basis of the State level unified syllabus implemented by the University since 2011-2012 academic session.
